Zero Unread or Thousands? Make Your Inbox Show the Work That Matters

An empty inbox can feel satisfying, while a four-digit unread badge can become part of the scenery. Neither tells the full story of how well you work. A mailbox can look tidy while an important reply is forgotten, or look crowded while the right tasks are under control. What matters is whether you can find and act on the messages that need you.

Before a cleanup, follow your workplace's record-retention and security rules; do not bulk-delete business records just to improve a counter. Treat unexpected links, attachments and urgent payment requests cautiously. FTC advises verifying suspicious messages through contact details you already trust. Faster processing should still leave room to recognize a scam.

What does your inbox look like?

Choose the closest description of your usual habit. These are informal groups, not exact numerical ranges; Inbox zero means you regularly clear the inbox. Your choice is not a personality assessment.
