Brake Pad Quote or Full Brake Job? The Difference Is in the Inspection

Two brake quotes can look far apart because they describe different work. One may cover pads on a single axle; another may include rotors, hardware and additional repairs. Before comparing the total, find out what the technician actually measured and which parts of your car the estimate covers.

If braking becomes weak, the pedal sinks or feels unusually soft, or a brake warning appears with a change in stopping performance, safely stop driving and arrange professional help. Grinding or smoke near a wheel also needs prompt attention; do not keep driving to compare prices. A recent service date does not override a new safety symptom.

For routine planning, your last service date is a starting point for finding records, not a countdown to replacement. The useful question is what was done then, how much you have driven since, and what an inspection shows now.

When were your brakes last serviced?

Choose the closest time range to review which records and inspection details to bring. Service age alone does not determine whether brakes need replacement.
