Whiten at Home or at the Dentist? Compare Cost, Time and Guidance

The whitening aisle promises convenience, while a dental office offers supervision and a different price. Choosing between them starts with what you want to change: surface staining, the overall shade of natural teeth, or a mismatch involving existing dental work. A more expensive option is not automatically the right answer.

Talk with a dentist before whitening, especially if you have pain, strong sensitivity, gum problems or one tooth that has changed color. Whitening can cause sensitivity and gum irritation, and it does not lighten crowns, veneers or fillings. The cause of discoloration and your oral health should guide the plan before speed or price.
