A Bigger Electric Bill Does Not Automatically Make Solar a Better Deal

A large electric bill can make rooftop solar appealing, but it cannot tell you whether a proposal is a good deal. Two households paying the same amount may use different amounts of electricity, face different utility rates, and receive very different credits for power sent back to the grid.

Start with twelve months of bills and choose the closest monthly average below. Each range offers a different place to focus your comparison. For a system newly placed in service in 2026, leave the former federal Residential Clean Energy Credit out of the calculation: the IRS says that credit ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025.

Use your last twelve bills to choose the closest average and find the comparison questions most relevant to your household.
