A cloud storage bill can look tiny each month while hiding a poor fit: a nearly empty plan, several overlapping subscriptions, or a photo library about to hit its limit. Start with the amount actually used in your provider's storage dashboard, including backups and any family members sharing the allowance.
Before deleting files or downgrading, protect anything you want to keep. A synchronized library can carry deletions to other devices: Apple says deleting an item in iCloud Photos deletes it across connected devices. Download original files where needed and verify a separate backup; a visible thumbnail or a second synchronized screen is not proof of an independent copy.
Check actual usage in your provider's displayed units, including shared family usage if relevant. At exactly 200GB choose 50–200GB; at exactly 1TB choose 1TB+.
