Your Dog's Favorite Sleep Spot Can Help You Choose a Better Bed

You buy a new dog bed, then find your dog asleep on the rug beside it. Another night, your dog chooses the space next to you. Before treating that choice as a message about your bond, look at the practical details: surface, temperature, access, noise, and the routine around bedtime.

A sleeping spot cannot measure affection or diagnose anxiety. Contact your veterinarian if a new sleep change comes with restlessness, discomfort, difficulty getting up, or other changes in health or behavior. Replacing a bed should not delay assessment of a dog that seems unable to get comfortable.

Where does your dog usually sleep at night?

Choose the closest usual setup; choose beside my bed when that location fits, even if your dog has a separate bed there. This is not a measure of your bond.
