Would an EV Fit Your Week? Start With Where You Park

A long advertised driving range is reassuring, but the everyday EV question is often simpler: where will the car be parked while it charges? A short commute with reliable charging can be convenient. The same distance can take more planning when every charging session requires a separate trip.

Start with your usual daily distance, rounded to whole miles, and then consider your busiest regular day. The choices below organize practical checks rather than assign a suitability score. In this article, EV means an all-electric vehicle; a plug-in hybrid also has a fuel-powered engine.

For a purchase planned now, do not subtract expired federal credits from the price. As checked in September 2026, the IRS says federal new and previously owned clean-vehicle credits are unavailable for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. The federal charging-property credit also does not apply to property placed in service after June 30, 2026.

How far do you usually drive per day?

Choose your usual whole-mile daily distance for a focused look at charging access, schedule, and ownership costs.
