A neighbor mentions a car-insurance bill that is much lower than yours, and suddenly your renewal looks expensive. But the monthly number leaves out the cars, drivers, location, limits, and deductibles behind it. The useful comparison is what different insurers would charge to cover your own situation on the same terms.
Start with the amount you currently pay below. If you pay every six months or once a year, divide the policy premium by the number of covered months for this exercise. These ranges are reading routes, not national averages or a judgment that you are overpaying; household policies may also cover more than one car.
Choose your approximate monthly premium to find a practical starting point for reviewing coverage, deductibles, and equivalent quotes.
